Call for Proposals for Adjunct Professorships for the 2007/2008 Academic
Robert P. Ashlock
Adjunct Professor in Risk Management & Insurance
The Griffith Foundation for Insurance Education
Promoting the Teaching of Risk Management and Insurance
Due by March 15, 2007.
With generous contributions from the Robert P. Ashlock Memorial Fund established by Assurex Global, the Griffith Foundation is able to offer financial support for several adjunct professors during the academic year 2007/2008. We encourage you to submit a proposal based on the details below.
Purpose: Further the development of risk management and insurance education at U.S. based colleges and universities by providing funds for adjunct professors.
Criteria: Several criteria will be employed in approving proposals for funding, including:
- Program Vision. How the availability of funds for an adjunct professor will assist in the overall development of the risk management and insurance program at your institution. That is, the adjunct professorship ought to fit within an overall program vision for improving the opportunities available to teach risk management and insurance at your institution. If you already have a risk management and insurance program, what are the current courses and what are the enrollments? If this is a new program, please explain why it is needed. Discuss how your institution supports your vision.
- Your Particular Needs. We are interested in information on the specific course(s) the chosen individual will teach, how the course(s) will fit within your curriculum, and if you will ask this person to teach for one or two semesters? We do not plan to fund teaching more than one course in any given semester, considering such a teaching load too heavy for someone with a full-time industry job.
- University Resources. Will university resources likely be available in future semesters to hire an adjunct professor? We would like to see this opportunity as the start of a longer-term commitment on the part of your institution to develop or strengthen your risk management and insurance program. Also, what is the typical compensation for adjunct professors at your institution and what is the typical teaching load of adjunct professors? If your proposal is funded, will that release some university funds for other uses that would enhance the development of your program, and if so, how would it be helpful?
- Search Process. How will the adjunct professor be identified and selected? Specifically:
-- what qualifications will you require?
-- what is your source of possible individuals?
-- if you have someone specific in mind, who is that person and what is her or his background?
- Financial Assistance. Describe the level of financial assistance that you are requesting to hire an adjunct professor. Identify the date by which you need to hear on whether or not funding will be provided as well as the date by which you need to receive the funding.
- Other Information. Provide any other relevant information about your plans.
Submission: Proposals are due by March 15, 2007. The selection processes will be completed and notification made within two months after the deadline. Submissions should not exceed two single-spaced pages. Please send any inquiries to the attention of Don Rebele at the Griffith Foundation. Thank you for your interest.
